Outrage as no men shortlisted for the final of The Great British Bake Off

The BBC has been inundated with complaints today after the popular baking contest announced an all-female shortlist for its series finale.

‘I think this decision really highlights the gender inequalities that still exist in the baking community,’ said 31-year-old hopeful Darren, five-time winner of the Stourbridge fete cake competition.

Are you a keen amateur baker? Are you passionate about your hobby? Can you turn out an exceptional celebration cake, mouth-watering pastries or a great loaf of bread?

Do you love home baking and fancy putting your skills to the test?

The BBC are looking for amateur bakers across the country to take part in series three of The Great British Bake Off.

In this series we’ll see 12 passionate home bakers take part in a bake off to test every aspect of their baking skills as they battle to be crowned The Great British Bake Off’s best amateur baker. Each week will see keen bakers put through three challenges in a particular discipline. Baking could range from brandy snaps, to quiche, to many a baker’s nemesis, scones.

The Great British Bake Off is produced for the BBC by Love Productions.

Applicants must be 16 years of age and over on 1 February 2012.

As an amateur baker your main source of income cannot come from commercial baking in a professional environment and you cannot have ever worked full-time as a baker or chef. You cannot have acquired any formal NVQ or other professional catering qualifications in the past 10 years.
